The hidden danger in these popular backyard pools has forced a massive recall

Two brands of above-ground swimming pools have been recalled because of a design flaw that could allow children easy access, posing a drowning hazard.

Blue Wave has recalled 13,400 pools that are 48 inches and taller.

SereneLife has recalled 80 pools that are 48 inches and taller.

In both cases, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said, “The compression strap that surrounds the outside of the pool legs may create a foothold, allowing a child access to the pool, posing a drowning hazard.”

If you own one of these pools, here’s what you need to do immediately.

The Blue Wave pools were sold at The Home Depot, Lowe’s and Dunham’s Sports retail stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com, Walmart.com and Wayfair.com from January 2021 through July 2025 for between $600 and $2,000 depending on the size and model of the pool and accessories purchased.

Blue Wave pool owners should contact Blue Wave to request a free repair kit. In the interim, owners should ensure that children cannot access the pool unattended or, alternatively, drain the pool until the repair can be installed.

Blue Wave said the kits should arrive in 5 to 10 days. An installation video is available here.

Owners can call Blue Wave at 800-603-0475 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday or send an email to recall@bluewaveproducts.com.
